In a report by industry body MAIT and market research firm IMRB, the tablet sales in India is set to win the race against desktop PC’s, the backbone of India’s IT revolution. We believe this can be due to the change in lifestyle and the necessity of portable devices.
The desktop PCs had witnessed a downfall, with sales dropping by 26% in 2013-14 and expected drop of 16% this year. Whereas, Tablets are expected to grow this year, with sales of 4.26 million unites and a growth of 27% rise by the end f this year.
The rapid growth of Tablets in India is not surprising considering the way the Indian smartphone and tablet marketing is shaping up with more homegrown maker like Micromax and Karbonn dominating the larger masses by offering tablets as low as INR 6000 – giving a tough competition to global leaders like Samsung and Apple.
The wireless mobility device comes at nearly half the price of a desktop PC and is easy to carry on the move. They make full use of cheap and faster data connections with no hassle of wiring.
Another reason for the decline of desktops is due to entry of low-cost notebooks. Notebook sales have been rising over the last few years, with a growth of 3.28 million units in 2010-11 to 6.84 million unities in 2013-14.
