Study says (which only includes traffic from the U.S. and Canada), there may be more than 7% decline in Apple iPad’s tablet web traffic between 1st December – 27th December. The major gainer, Amazon’s Kindle Fire with its share increasing by about 3% and over 1% web traffic jump of Samsung Galaxy tablet.
Despite multiple reports of slow sales of Microsoft Surface tablet, there has been a slight boost in its share of web traffic during this period.
This report may be little concerning for Apple as this was iPad mini’s first holiday season and much more would have been expected out of the cheaper alternative to the iPad. Apple iPad undoubtedly remains the leader with 79% share of tablet web traffic. Amazon Kindle Fire has nearly doubled its share in December to 7.5%.
There are chances of a turnaround in the web usage in the coming months as many new device users would play with their devices at the beginning and later use them less.
Some other major observations:
- Consumer activated more than 50 million Android and iOS devices – report from Flurry Analytics
- a significant number of Apple customers may have been on vacation during the holidays, negatively affecting iPad web usage stats
“We expect that the iPad’s share of traffic will return to the 80% range, albeit lower than pre-holiday levels, as users return from vacation and browse with their new devices less frequently,” Chitika noted in the report.
